For those of you who live in Portland, run, don't walk to the amazing gees bend quilt show opening tonight at the wonderful elizabeth leach gallery. For those of you who don't live here, I humbly offer that it might be a good time to take a moment to reacquaint yourself with their breathtaking beauty and powerful story anyway. They never disappoint in their artistic beauty and gravity and they always move one with their deep, meaningful stories. Such beauty and grace and power is always worthy of a visit every once in a while!
Here are some really remarkable drawings by lis timpone. Lovely black only on a parchment ground. Simple and stunning all at the same time.
I'm falling deeply in love with embroidery. The line. The very particular feel of thread as line. Like these sweet examples from tiny happy. Just lovely!
Mmm, you gotta love this! Dalek makes some pretty, gorgeous, colorful art, and we get to watch.
I really like the hand and color palettes of these lovely paintings by jennifer davis. They're whimsical and sophisticated all at the same time. Delish!
Someone help me. I'm having trouble catching my breath, what with all this needleworked beauty from renilde depeuter (I think that's her name, apologies if I've got it wrong). See more beauty at her lovely blog, at swim-two-birds.
I'm all a flutter about these totally amazing paintings by jeannie weissglass. More here for those who feel the same way I do.
I'm liking these linocuts by penny bhadresa quite a lot. A fresh and intriguing overlap between art and design. Very nice.
What a truly lovely video for the firekites song autumn story, found via free people.
Great gardeners are artists as far as I'm concerned, sculpting with living material and painting with fleeting color. It's undeniably the case that piet ouldof is the finest of artists. I love his philosophy, that gardens are the transition between wildness and civilization and as such, should express elements of both within them. His work makes my heart sing, the plant materials he uses, the color palettes he creates and the amazing compositions he constructs. Amazing work, pure and simple!
A wonderful video by bunliu found at the post family!
I love this poster by nagai kazumasha found at the wonderful but does it float.
Amazing ceramics from christopher russell. Birds, bees and flowers rendered in clay but somehow also reminiscent of bees wax or bread as materials. So many allusions to nature and sustenance that result in such a comforting feeling. Wow!
I'm loving the stillness and otherworldliness of these photographs by yamamoto masao. There is such beauty in the world. A thing not to be forgotten.
